Middle School Curriculum

(Students in the eighth grade dress as their favorite characters in The Outsiders)

Middle School begins in Grade 5 with an academic program organized by department.  Teachers, who are trained in specific subject areas, guide students in Tome’s traditional college preparatory education through the study of literature, grammar, composition, Latin, math, science and social studies.  The day is divided into seven periods, plus a lunch period.  Six periods are for academic instruction; one is recreational.  Class periods are 50 minutes long and all subjects meet daily.

Enrichment classes are offered in art, music, PE and computer science at the middle school level.  Tome’s middle school students are encouraged to demonstrate their creativity through a variety of class projects.  It is not unusual to see a display of medieval castles, Roman architecture, or science projects in the lobby.  Art projects can be found on display throughout the building.  Tome’s Middle School students also have the opportunity to participate on middle school and junior varsity level sports teams.
