Lower School Curriculum

Tome’s Lower School houses Grades K – 4. The Lower School classes are self-contained, with each class being assigned to one teacher for all instruction, except in such non-academic areas as art, music, library, physical education and computers. Kindergarten is an academic experience with formal reading attack skills consuming most of the learning time. The phonics method is used in reading instruction. In grades 1 through 4, classroom subjects taught are reading, spelling, mathematics, handwriting, science, and social studies. Lower School students typically have physical education twice weekly, in addition to classes in art, health, music, computers, French, Spanish and library.
